OH NO! NOT AGAIN!

OH NO! NOT AGAIN! started as a way to record some very classic polka tunes, like “Just Because” and “In Heaven There is No Beer”, in a somewhat classic manner. However, The Chardon Polka Band has never been content to just stay “inside the lines” of their chosen genre (polka). Their quirky tastes and eclectic musical backgrounds shone through as they filled this album with pop hits from the 1990s, rock/blues covers, and some lesser known polka tunes. The band wrapped up this album during the Covid-19 pandemic and used that time to create tracks with two of our favorite musicians; Carl Finch (of Brave Combo) and Michael Weber (Arkon’s The Michael Weber Show). These last two numbers brought the complete track list of the album up to fifteen songs.

To produce this expansive and ambitious record, The Chardon Polka Band teamed up with polka veteran, Gary Rhamy. Gary has been recording and mixing polka bands for decades at Peppermint Recording Studio (Youngstown, OH) and the polka legacy of this beloved studio continues on with OH NO! NOT AGAIN!. There was a lot of back and fourth to figure out the “sound” for this particular album. While OH NO! NOT AGAIN! does not stick to a strictly “old school” polka sound, it doesn’t abandon the “old school” polka sensibilities either. A great example of this is the song “All Star”, a 90s pop hit originally performed by Smash Mouth. The Chardon Polka Band performed with polka instrumentation, but mixed to be very similar to how you’d mix a polka tune… but with some 90s effects and techniques in there too. OH NO! NOT AGAIN!
